About You
Name: Julie
Age: 17
How did you find us: I play Trumpkin here too.
Rules Password: [Password Accepted ~Emmy]

Character Basics
Name: Favino Glozelle III (Telmarines have a tendency to reuse names)
Alias(es)/Nickname(s): none
Gender: Male
Age: 34 39, according to the canon list.  *cough* sorry.
Race: Human
Status/Title: General (I know in the book he was a lord, but for the purposes of this site, since there aren’t currently any active Telmarine leaders as far as I can tell, I think this is more appropriate.)
Affiliation: Telmar

Character Appearance
Hair: Curly and black, medium-length
Eyes: Dark brown and rather empty, as most Telmarines’ are.
Overall: Glozelle is pretty tall – taller than Miraz, anyway, which he takes advantage of at any time possible – and somewhat, but not overly, muscular.  He is an experienced warrior and has the body of such, to the pleasure of many ladies, but as he has aged he has “filled out” a little more, and has used his prowess to gain political instead of military power.  He often wears fine Telmarine garb, complete with military decorations that are mostly for show, but when practicing can be found in a linen shirt, trousers, and black leather riding boots.  He has a stern face that often has a scowl on it, and is marked by a few faded scars.  He has a mustache and short beard that are graying slightly prematurely due to stress.  He has refined features, but is not particularly attractive other than in the power he wields.
Portrayal: Pierfrancesco Favino (gee, wonder where I got the name from…)

Character Personality
Likes: women, power, scheming, children (secretly), geography, himself
Dislikes: old wives’ tales, animals, being wrong, drinking, history, sharing, Miraz
Strengths: planning military strategies, buttering up his superiors, being persuasive, hiding his feelings, surviving
Weaknesses: bad in close combat, proud, easily takes insult, often impulsive, can’t let go of his past, holds dangerous grudges

General Personality:
Once, Favino Glozelle was a good person.  Of course, that was a long time ago and as they say, things change.  Dramatically.  He has done everything he thought he had to in order to stay on top, worrying only about his own survival when he believed he had nothing else to live for.  He is a sensitive man for one of his position but has learned to keep his emotions in check when necessary.  He likes controlling things, after all.  His excessive hunger for power, not unusual for a Telmarine, has driven him to do things he regrets.  But instead of trying to atone for his sins, he instead blames others and is constantly looking for new methods of punishment for his enemies.  He is bitter and angry, choosing to use this to fight off the rebels of the world as if he has a personal vendetta with them.

Glozelle is calculating and manipulative - he wouldn't be one of Miraz's lords if he wasn't!  Though he has always despised the usurper king, he is using him, waiting patiently for the day when his plan will come to fruition.  These things helped him become who he is today, a well-known and well-paid general in Miraz’s army.  He is very good at putting up a facade.  Glozelle is also an awful hypocrite, dismissing Miraz as a coward for not leading his own men into battle, but only rarely does so himself.  Glozelle is the worst of villains for this reason: while Miraz is a clear-cut "bad guy", Glozelle is on no one's side but his own, while pretending otherwise.  This is the thing that makes him the most dangerous, because no one can ever really tell what he is up to, not even his closest advisors.

The question is, if you are bad because something bad happened to you, are you still bad?  Glozelle has always used his past as an excuse for his behavior.  He thinks that because he has been raised a certain way, or by a person who is a certain way, he automatically will also be that way.  He is a firm believer in tradition, not in Narnians or what is now considered silly myth.  He thinks he is always right because he has done what people approve of, but he has never considered that there are anything other than people in Narnia.  He has always worked for the approval of someone – whether his father’s (though he hated him, he still wanted acceptance) or Miraz’s (this too was false, but needed for the power he so desperately wanted), or his soldiers’ (if they didn’t believe in him, they would not believe in themselves, either, and then what would happen?).  He has a skewed sense of morals, but he follows them religiously, and if he can say nothing else, it is that.

Character History
Parents: Lord Favino Glozelle II (father)(deceased) and Isha Montoya Glozelle (deceased)
Siblings: younger sisters Lady Augustina Glozelle Eloia and Lady Belena Glozelle Emperatrizo

General History:
Glozelle experienced a typical Telmarine upbringing.  He was instructed in swordsmanship and politics, and little else.  His father whipped him regularly to ensure that he was “tough” and “disciplined”, as all good Telmarines were if they wanted to be anything.  His mother was abused, but according to Telmarine patriarchal society rules, could do nothing to defend herself.  He often saw different women paraded through the house, because his father was powerful enough to have anything he wanted without consequences, prostitutes included.  As a child, he loathed his father, Lord Favino Glozelle II, and vowed never to become like him, but became more like him than he ever imagined possible.  The only thing he does not have in common with his father is that he despises alcohol.  Though many Telmarines use this as an escape, he remembers the abuse he endured from his father while the man was drunk and does not want to feel that out of control himself.

When Caspian the Ninth died, Glozelle’s father was killed in the ensuing riots.  Glozelle had been in training at the time and had been getting closer to a possible position as lord.  As a newly fatherless son rightfully does in Telmarine society, he took on his father’s position.  Encouraging the Lord Protector Miraz to become King Miraz in order to advance his own position, Glozelle knew that when this happened, it would help him – but had no idea of what the true repercussions would be.  Rather than being able to gain power, Glozelle actually lost it.  Though Miraz named him general, he was frequently belittled for no good reason once Miraz was secured as king and no longer needed his support.  He found himself tiring of the mistreatment but kept up with his work, if only to keep his good reputation and keep his men in good spirits.

When Caspian the Tenth ran away, Glozelle was surprised.  He did not think he would actually do it.  But then again, he was not sure he would have actually killed the boy, anyway, particularly since he was the only chance the Telmarines had to some day get rid of Miraz.  When it appeared as though young Caspian was changing sides, Glozelle decided it was time for him to do the same thing – not to be for the Narnians, just to be against Miraz.  And so, as he was prone to do, he began to plot…

Other/Notes: I’m trying to combine the character from the book with the character from the movie, but there are so many differences!  (ie., Sopespian killed Miraz instead of Glozelle in the movie, Glozelle was just a lord and not a general in the book, etc.)  If you think there is a way I can do this more successfully, I would love some pointers!

On the third occasion Lord Sopespian had invited Glozelle to have dinner with him at a place in the town, he finally accepted.  Though he disapproved of going anywhere that was not up to his “standards”, he agreed that it was nice to get out of the castle every once in a while as well as out of sight of Miraz and his over-zealous guards.  Though Glozelle pretended to approve wholeheartedly of Miraz, the exact opposite was actually true.  He had, a few times, discussed briefly with Sopespian the possibility of his dislike of Miraz, but never in a place where it was safe enough to go into further detail.  Tonight, he was correct in assuming that privacy was the very reason they had ventured into a run-down shack to grab a bite of bad food, on the opposite end of the town from Miraz’s castle.

They were served after far too long of a period of sitting and idle talk, but Glozelle did not mind this too terribly because of the population of women about, many of whom were more than happy to occupy him once they found out who he was.  They were given strong ale and meat, barely discernable in the darkness of the place, but no one much minded.  They had been chatting about nothing in particular, but when the food arrived, the noise picked up slightly around them, and they were able to talk more freely.  Sopespian had been blathering on about something and beginning to bother Glozelle, so he spoke.

“Now, Sopespian,” Glozelle purred silkily, tracing patterns with his finger on the frosted glass that stood in front of him.  His pleased expression crumbled into one of disdain.  “You know what I think of drink.”

At this, he took the glass and upturned it, emptying its contents into the bodice of the woman seated on his lap.

“It dulls the senses.”

His eyes flashed dangerously as a forced smile graced his features once again.  He relaxed slightly, returning the mug to its place, and turned back to his companion.

“Given what we are discussing tonight, I believe it would be best to remain... sharp, do you not agree?”

Even as he spoke, his hand drifted away from the table.  It landed not on the woman but on his sword hilt.  This happened nearly automatically.  Of course, he was not the best of swordsmen, but he knew it was well to be prepared, especially when they were technically speaking treachery against their king.  While the enemy of an enemy was a friend, in times like these, no one could be trusted.  The first chance he got, he and Sopespian would kill Miraz.  And if Sopespian offered any threat after that… well, soon enough, Glozelle would do something to make sure that the throne was still secured as his own.  But for now, he would be patient.  Slowly, deliberately, he took a bite of his meat, being careful to chew it.  One always had to be careful not to choke.

Wonderful! This application is

Accepted!

And don't worry too much about the discrepancies between the book and the movie. Choose whichever suits you best (esp. since we don't yet have a Sopespian), and go from there! I think what you have so far is great.
