So, everyone's still waiting for the Pevensies to make it to Aslan's How. Hopefully, we'll make it there soon, but as we are missing the boys, it might be a little while 'til we get there.

In the meantime, we were thinking that the Narnians and Telmarines could have a battle/skirmish. Perhaps the Telmarines could hear that the Narnians have been weakened by the storm, and decide to attack or something.  We don't have a Miraz, but I could NP Miraz through Adimon (who's Miraz' Private Secretary), or perhaps Drinian could be sent to lead the battle.

Anyway, I just thought I'd put this out there, since I know you all are creative. What do you guys think? Should we have some sort of fighting between the Narnians and Telmarines?  Do you have any additional ideas for how we can do it?

Killian's brother Sephen does trade with many clients, and he gets a number of goods from a flock of harpies and brings supplies to the Narnian camp; maybe Sephen is sending Killian in his place being busy with something, or Adimon happens on his estate on the Braose fiefdom trying to escape the Narnian search party?

And umm.... good question! That's up to you guys, I guess. None of my characters really have the motivation and/or power to start a full-on battle...

I would prompt Caspian to do so but... well, I think considering the state of his army he'd want to hold off as long as possible.

I really wish the Pevensies would get to the How soon! lol

Just wondering... Are the Pevensie boys still active? I'd be interested in Edmund if he's not still active. And I feel like that plot seriously needs a move on! Peter and Edmund keep going inactive. D:

Also, Thal is up for involvement in all this battle mayhem, of course. xD

I know.  D:  I guess we'll see after this activity check, but I think it's safe to say they're both gone Sad  It's too bad.  Peter is my favorite.

Anyway, back on topic...  Glozelle is itching to get into battle, and I think at this point Drinian and Caspian honestly have the most authority (both in and out of character).  So, what do you guys think?  Because if the Pevensie boys are indeed inactive and not planning to return, we're gonna need something to do - even if they do return (or one of us decides to play them - tee hee), it will still take a bit to play out their journey to the How.

Yes, we should think about what would have happened if the Pevensies had never showed up.  They have showed up, of course, and hopefully we'll get to the How (maybe Lucy'll just do everything herself! Grin ) but none of the other characters know that.

Oh, and Raeka, if Edmund doesn't respond to this activity check, it'd be wonderful if you could apply for him!  And hopefully we still have a Peter, as Tal did actually log on today.

Err... one of the Narnians could be captured, prompting a squirmish? Or someone could THINK one of them were captured or someone could spot a Narnian in the process of being taken? lol. Just throwing out ideas here that are an attempt to not be a repeat of the whole Adimon thing all over again. lol

All righty.  Well.  In the book it says simply that Miraz's men followed Caspian to the How and they skirmished there multiple times.  However, as everyone probably knows, that was before he blew the horn.  (And, since the Pevensies are here now - even if just barely so - that has already been done.)

But for the sake of slaking everyone's thirst for battle, we might as well buck the system a bit, since we already have anyway, and do that.  Glozelle and Miraz - *pokes Miraz* - should just drag their men to the How and do a bit of fighting.  Then the Pevensies will arrive, and the plot will be happily ever after from there.

Of course, sticking to book-verse means no raid on the castle (which might have been quite fun), but that's what the admins were planning on, right?  Just correct me if I'm wrong.  Anyway, that will give us all something to do for now.  I'm happy to see Peter logged in today, as Lu pointed out.  Sooo, come one, come all, to help us plot!  (...Trumpkin still needs rescuing, by the way, Pevensies xD)

I'm responding to the poke.

Canonically, I believe we are adhering to the book in most regards. I do not believe the castle raid to be a feasible plot-happening, as Miraz is currently encamped with the Telmarine army. It would not make sense for him to return to the castle so that he might be ambushed, then return back to his camp. So I believe we will scratch that.

Also, I know I haven't done much in the "sounding board" thread. I'm sorry. It's partly because I am not sure how things are going on the Narnian side, so I was waiting to see what catalysts Miraz would seize upon to go to war with Caspian. He sent Drinian over not truly to negotiate, but to get intelligence on the status of their stores, the numbers of their men, their mode of organisation, the layout of the How, etc.

I think it's clear at least from the movies that Miraz wants popular sentiment to be behind him and so does all he can to vilify Caspian and his forces so that the Telmarines are the victims. He is, then, waiting for a situation to arise where he can simply demand justice and retaliation against the Narnians. In my mind, there are two situations that have been mentioned that are legitimate grounds for a catalyst:

1. This thread where Reepicheep threatens Telmarine soldier Thal Deverell. If any injuries should result or a bond of truce be broken, just grounds for retaliating.

2. A poisoned vial of medicine that Drinian has left in his saddlebag. It's his own personal vial that he planned to use for himself, should he fall sick. (Miraz has poisoned it as well as the one intended for Caspian, which has been destroyed in this thread. Should anyone get greedy and try some -- an NPC Narnian? the NPC Telmarine soldier with the party -- they would be poisoned. Something would come of this, I'm sure.

Of course, we could have both happen. But I think we should play up some of the tense situations we already have. I'm sure that Miraz is having Glozelle and his soldiers prepare for battle. Perhaps I will post this in the Sounding Board thread tomorrow.

These are just my thoughts. Does anyone want to pursue either of these avenues? (Rather than decide what will happen play-by-play here in this thread, perhaps it would be most fun if we chose a course, then see how it unfolds. I like a degree of indeterminacy in threads. Smiley )

Yes, I do believe we’re going mostly by the book (especially since IN was created before the movie had even come out, back in February of ’08). We aren’t completely limited to the activities of the book but it’s true, it would be way too difficult to find a way to make sense of Miraz being at the castle when it happened, then to go back to where he is presently. UNLESS –random idea- he’d been sent message that there was something wrong with his son. That the boy had fallen ill, something. If Miraz’s son died, and then something happened to Miraz... well there goes all his plans, etc. So Miraz would head back to find out for sure what the situation was, and how grave.

That’s just if we really, really, really wanted to do the castle raid. lol.

In response to the two possible catalysts, I think both could perhaps play a role in the beginning of actually fighting. It does mention in the books that there was fighting before the Pevensies arrived – in fact, they very nearly walked right into it, if you recall, when they didn’t believe Lucy and went a different way than Aslan had wanted them to go.

1.) This looks like an interesting thread. Just thought I’d mention that, hehe. And yes, if any injuries were inflicted, there could be problems. They are there to manage negotiations and with that would come some sort of protection against violence or open hostility, I should think.

2.) The medicine is another wonderful catalyst. Perhaps it isn’t even that someone gets greedy, per se, but takes it thinking that the Telmarine camp has more than enough while Caspian’s camp is dying so the person who takes it isn’t ill, but gives it to someone who is. Could cause a lot of trouble, and anger tossed in lots of directions – towards Caspian for allowing the Telmarines into the camp, towards Drinian and his party for having the poisoned medicine to begin with... to the person who took it for trusting Telmarine medicine... it can go on and on! How fuN!

-nods- I agree, let’s choose a course and let it go from there.

Oh, no, I meant no offense.  I'm good with sticking to canon.  I love canon.  -huggles canon-  I agree with you about the raid, Drin, definitely.  I don't think Miraz would go back, and the whole sick son idea is good, but perhaps a wee bit complicated.

And it's totally fine, I know everyone's been busy, and it's just hard to get a plot going when SO many characters are involved!  I love the way you have Miraz plotting stuff.  I read your posts - Drinian's post about the poisoned vial, for instance - and my jaw drops.

Speaking of which, that's a brilliant idea!  Of course Miraz would find a way to blame the Narnians.  ...And Reep is definitely up for the other option if Thal is.  (I'm not sure if he would be sorry or thrilled for being a catalyst xD  You know he thinks even Telmarine peace-keepers deserve his worst...)

I think we're mostly just picking and choosing the parts we like best or that work best for us, whether they come from the book, the movie, or our own imaginations.  ...Although I do tend to go with the book more than the movie, because it's what I prefer.

Re: the castle raid.  We don't have to do it, but it would be a way to let the battle groups and those who stay mostly at the castle interact.   Frankly, I wasn't too fond of the concept in the movie (though there were some parts in the raid I liked), but it could provide some interesting RPing.

And actually, following the movie a bit more might work better (despite the fact that I prefer the book) for the same reasons why they made the decisions to make the movie the way they did in the first place.  After all, the first half of the book, after the Pevensies get to Narnia and discover where they are, is mostly just Trumpkin telling the children what has gone on before.  Then they take awhile to get to the How (which means everyone else needs something else to do during that time), before they finally arrive and all that's really left is the big battle and getting everything settled happily ever after. Following the movie a bit more gets the Pevensies there faster, and gives everyone a bit more to do.  If people's characters are more based on the book, they can just change the motivations for doing things to be different than in the movie, if possible.  (It was really the movie characterizations that bugged me most, anyway).

And as for the two catalysts for the next battle, I think I like the second better, but either (or both!) sound good to me!

Hooray! Great ideas, all!  I think with our various and sometimes limited knowledge of these events (i.e. the movie conflicts with the book, the book doesn't elaborate on some things, the movie cuts out others), the idea of picking and choosing is spot-on. I think we'll cross bridges when we get there. (Now, I can't help but think of all the crossing of bridges that goes on in the movie/book. Hah.) So we'll see about the castle raid, depending on how things are going and how swiftly the Pevensie thread moves along.

Let's work on getting the Pevensies to the How as soon as we can so that we can move on with the direct battle and get them interacting. I do think Misha brings up a valid point in the thought of bringing the How/Miraz people and the Castle Miraz people together as well. But we'll see, eh?

As for the plot ideas, let's go with the vial for now. I may have an NPC Narnian (unless a played Narnian character wants to be the bearer of bad news) break in to this thread with the announcement that they must report back to Caspian and the Narnians -- a Narnian has died suspiciously while in the possession of one of Drinian's vials. Possibly Alexandra, Swiftshadow, Senzi, or Damien would be interested?

And as for the duel, that will/can be added ammunition, depending on how it goes! But as we don't know the outcome or progress of it, perhaps it is best to go with option 2, after all.

I offer Swiftshadow up for whatever you need her for. She can bear the news in the thread you linked, steal the vial (while I doubt she'd give it to anyone herself without knowing what was in it, she could take it and put it with her healing supplies, and someone could take it from there not knowing where it's from), or take it herself and die (though she'd have to get sick first, since she hasn't shown any signs of being sick thus far).  Or she could just be involved in the general chaos and finger pointing. Whatever works best for everyone!

As for everything else, I agree with the "wait and see" approach. Like a couple of people have said, it's more fun when not everything is planned out!
