So, everyone's still waiting for the Pevensies to make it to Aslan's How. Hopefully, we'll make it there soon, but as we are missing the boys, it might be a little while 'til we get there.

In the meantime, we were thinking that the Narnians and Telmarines could have a battle/skirmish. Perhaps the Telmarines could hear that the Narnians have been weakened by the storm, and decide to attack or something.  We don't have a Miraz, but I could NP Miraz through Adimon (who's Miraz' Private Secretary), or perhaps Drinian could be sent to lead the battle.

Anyway, I just thought I'd put this out there, since I know you all are creative. What do you guys think? Should we have some sort of fighting between the Narnians and Telmarines?  Do you have any additional ideas for how we can do it?

I'll start an application for Edmund (unless you'd much prefer a Peter) soon, if that would help. I'd like to play him.

As for the fighting, I know that Drinian's personal plan is to *somehow* gain a private audience with Caspian without Miraz knowing (or at least knowing the matter of the meeting) or being torn apart by the Narnians for approaching the How (should he go as a service to Miraz).

My mind was toying with the idea of Drinian being sent over to negotiate freedom for Adimon (and really, to Miraz's mind, to take in how bad the situation was and to see if there were any weaknesses they could exploit). Miraz may figure that Caspian would not suspect foul play from Drinian. We  could do this (it would take more time -- which is both a pro and a con) and, if something goes wrong (or "right" to Miraz's mind), a battle could ensue as a result?

Anyhow. I think that that would be a good precursor to the battle (and how they would know about the sickness?).

Melissa - Both Edmund and Peter are crucial, so either is fine.  It would be great if you wanted to start an app!

Everyone - I'm off for a week on a mini road-trip thing (my friend and I are driving to my school, and making a couple of detours), so I won't be contributing much if anything 'til that's done. But continue brainstorming! The main thing is for those at Caspian's camp (and Miraz's, though there aren't too many there now) to have something to do while they wait for the Pevensies.  And even feel free to start the thread if you guys get it all settled and none of my charries are needed right away. I'll be back on the 12th!

I think the thing with Drinian sounds fine.

Anyone else with ideas?

I believe that Misha has Adimon escaping the camp. But you'll have to talk with her about that as I am not entirely sure.

Other than that, everything sounds good!

Ah, good catch. I had not caught that the arrow delivery was a part of an effectual escape from the camp; I had been reading it as an "escape" (from pressures, from being indoors); I knew he eventually would . . .

But this could create an amusing situation in and of itself. As of right now, he's not yet at Miraz's camp and so Drinian still might be sent . . . only to find that the person he was supposed to negotiate for was in fact already gone. . .

Dunno. We don't have to do it. I know though that Drinian's going to do all in his power to talk to Caspian anyhow. Smiley (Whether or not this actually happens is another matter, but I don't think many people can stop Drinian from an attempt once he's set his mind out to do something.)

I think that it would be awesome if Drinian went looking to negotiate Adimon's freedom, only to discover that Adimon was already gone.

And as for me, I have no problem with him getting his audience with Caspian lol

Yeah, I was planning on having Adimon escape, as I'm thinking he'll be more use elsewhere. I'll write that post sometime this week.

After I get Adimon out, Drinian can get over to talk to Caspian to negotiate for Adimon's release. Then something or another could lead to a battle (depending on how that interview goes). By that time, Adimon should be back at Miraz' camp (I'm thinking he might take a detour to the castle before then, as that would be the perfect way for him to regain his memory).

Or as an alternate plan, I can have Adimon go straight to Miraz' camp (having regained his memory somewhere on the way), and he can be the one to tell Miraz of the weaknesses in Caspian's camp.  Miraz can then decide to attack right away. As for Drinian, he can either be sent to lead the army (and he could maybe find some way to talk to Caspian) or we can say that he hasn't gotten to the front yet (which would give him time to take place in the ladies' tea party, maybe?). If he hasn't gotten there yet, maybe he could be sent after the battle to talk to Caspian (to try to end the war on favorable terms for the Telmarines or something).

Just throwing ideas out there!

Ok, so both Drinian and Swiftshadow's groups are on their way now. How much do both groups want to RP before they meet up?

Once they meet up, Swiftshadow will probably return to the Narnian camp with the Telmarines (once she finds out that she can't dissuade Drinian from his mission even though Adimon is gone), as she doesn't trust them. The other Narnians can go back with her, go on ahead to warn Caspian of Drinian's approach, or continue on searching for Adimon.

Speaking of the last option, while I don't intend on getting Adimon recaptured, I'm totally fine with him running into someone, resulting in a chase/scuffle/conversation. I've nixed the idea of him going to the castle (it'll take too long, and there's no one there now other than NPCs that he'd really talk to anyway), so he's just going to go straight to Miraz' camp, regaining his memory along the way.

Also, do we have a reason for a battle to break out yet?

They should meet up soon, I think. I might play Thal for a bit to balance out the personalities, here, because I think an (appearing) true Telmarine who isn't quite as charismatic as the other three might cause a bit more tension. . .

But I think we need to see whether or not Gavin wants to join in before Drin and Dharr head off. . .

And I think that the intel that Miraz gains from the visit will be reason enough. If he knows they are hurting and Caspian is sick . . . they'll have a battle. Miraz doesn't really NEED a reason. Though, Miraz could be really evil and put Drinian in quite the political conundrum.

Caspian has decided to congregate his people on Bernal land (Drinian's duchy). This would be "trespassing." UNLESS, of course, Drinian wants to say that he invited them to stay there. . .

But I don't want it to necessarily be a Drinian-centric plot, but that would certainly be a move Miraz would/could pull. But again, I say that if he ends up finding out that they're all sick--or Caspian is weak and unable to fight--he'd move. Quickly.

Also, for imprisoning Adimon. . . Not that Miraz was that personally hurt by the move, but he could pretend to be.

ALSO, if Gavin doesn't want to go to the Narnian camp, he could always stay behind and be the first person that Adimon meets up. And maybe in a conversation with him, he in fact regains his memory?

With the group Swiftshadow is leading,  I think we're waiting on at least reply for Arina (and Swiftshadow will likely reply again after that).  But then we're pretty much ready whenever to meet up with your group (Draco, Emmy, and Liz - correct me if I'm wrong!). So just let us know when you're ready, and we can start a new thread!

As for the battle, all of what you listed sounds good! We'll just play, and I'm sure a battle will result.

And yeah, as I said before, if Gavin or anyone else wants to run into Adimon, just let me know!

I think I would like to have Gavin go to the Narnian camp with Drinian, just to make things interseting for him. And I'm sorry for the lack of replies. I've been super busy lately.

For the tracking down a prisoner thread, maybe we could have someone come in as a Telmarine soldier?

Hm... we could do that.  Like a "false alarm" type thing. Or it'd be interesting to meet up with Drinian's group, and have a prisoner in tow who wasn't the expected Adimon.

I'm not sure we have any Telmarines who could fill that role, but we could always NPC it. You want to have Senzi see someone, since he's next to post?

I've been talking a lot to Melissa, Sephen will prolly be in on a lot of this; he's supplying the Narnians with rations and whatnot, but he's stretched very thin keeping up his facade for Miraz supplying HIM as well.

He'd be delivering medicine, but nowhere near fast enough to get the army back up on its feet anytime soon.

Um.... other than that, he'd just join the Narnians once they led an attack, or if Miraz found out Sephen was double-crossing him and he had to flee with his brother Killian.

Killian's brother Sephen does trade with many clients, and he gets a number of goods from a flock of harpies and brings supplies to the Narnian camp; maybe Sephen is sending Killian in his place being busy with something, or Adimon happens on his estate on the Braose fiefdom trying to escape the Narnian search party?

Just wondering... Are the Pevensie boys still active? I'd be interested in Edmund if he's not still active. And I feel like that plot seriously needs a move on! Peter and Edmund keep going inactive. D:

Also, Thal is up for involvement in all this battle mayhem, of course. xD

I know.  D:  I guess we'll see after this activity check, but I think it's safe to say they're both gone Sad  It's too bad.  Peter is my favorite.

Anyway, back on topic...  Glozelle is itching to get into battle, and I think at this point Drinian and Caspian honestly have the most authority (both in and out of character).  So, what do you guys think?  Because if the Pevensie boys are indeed inactive and not planning to return, we're gonna need something to do - even if they do return (or one of us decides to play them - tee hee), it will still take a bit to play out their journey to the How.

Yes, we should think about what would have happened if the Pevensies had never showed up.  They have showed up, of course, and hopefully we'll get to the How (maybe Lucy'll just do everything herself! Grin ) but none of the other characters know that.

Oh, and Raeka, if Edmund doesn't respond to this activity check, it'd be wonderful if you could apply for him!  And hopefully we still have a Peter, as Tal did actually log on today.

Err... one of the Narnians could be captured, prompting a squirmish? Or someone could THINK one of them were captured or someone could spot a Narnian in the process of being taken? lol. Just throwing out ideas here that are an attempt to not be a repeat of the whole Adimon thing all over again. lol

All righty.  Well.  In the book it says simply that Miraz's men followed Caspian to the How and they skirmished there multiple times.  However, as everyone probably knows, that was before he blew the horn.  (And, since the Pevensies are here now - even if just barely so - that has already been done.)

But for the sake of slaking everyone's thirst for battle, we might as well buck the system a bit, since we already have anyway, and do that.  Glozelle and Miraz - *pokes Miraz* - should just drag their men to the How and do a bit of fighting.  Then the Pevensies will arrive, and the plot will be happily ever after from there.

Of course, sticking to book-verse means no raid on the castle (which might have been quite fun), but that's what the admins were planning on, right?  Just correct me if I'm wrong.  Anyway, that will give us all something to do for now.  I'm happy to see Peter logged in today, as Lu pointed out.  Sooo, come one, come all, to help us plot!  (...Trumpkin still needs rescuing, by the way, Pevensies xD)

I'm responding to the poke.

Canonically, I believe we are adhering to the book in most regards. I do not believe the castle raid to be a feasible plot-happening, as Miraz is currently encamped with the Telmarine army. It would not make sense for him to return to the castle so that he might be ambushed, then return back to his camp. So I believe we will scratch that.

Also, I know I haven't done much in the "sounding board" thread. I'm sorry. It's partly because I am not sure how things are going on the Narnian side, so I was waiting to see what catalysts Miraz would seize upon to go to war with Caspian. He sent Drinian over not truly to negotiate, but to get intelligence on the status of their stores, the numbers of their men, their mode of organisation, the layout of the How, etc.

I think it's clear at least from the movies that Miraz wants popular sentiment to be behind him and so does all he can to vilify Caspian and his forces so that the Telmarines are the victims. He is, then, waiting for a situation to arise where he can simply demand justice and retaliation against the Narnians. In my mind, there are two situations that have been mentioned that are legitimate grounds for a catalyst:

1. This thread where Reepicheep threatens Telmarine soldier Thal Deverell. If any injuries should result or a bond of truce be broken, just grounds for retaliating.

2. A poisoned vial of medicine that Drinian has left in his saddlebag. It's his own personal vial that he planned to use for himself, should he fall sick. (Miraz has poisoned it as well as the one intended for Caspian, which has been destroyed in this thread. Should anyone get greedy and try some -- an NPC Narnian? the NPC Telmarine soldier with the party -- they would be poisoned. Something would come of this, I'm sure.

Of course, we could have both happen. But I think we should play up some of the tense situations we already have. I'm sure that Miraz is having Glozelle and his soldiers prepare for battle. Perhaps I will post this in the Sounding Board thread tomorrow.

These are just my thoughts. Does anyone want to pursue either of these avenues? (Rather than decide what will happen play-by-play here in this thread, perhaps it would be most fun if we chose a course, then see how it unfolds. I like a degree of indeterminacy in threads. Smiley )

Yes, I do believe we’re going mostly by the book (especially since IN was created before the movie had even come out, back in February of ’08). We aren’t completely limited to the activities of the book but it’s true, it would be way too difficult to find a way to make sense of Miraz being at the castle when it happened, then to go back to where he is presently. UNLESS –random idea- he’d been sent message that there was something wrong with his son. That the boy had fallen ill, something. If Miraz’s son died, and then something happened to Miraz... well there goes all his plans, etc. So Miraz would head back to find out for sure what the situation was, and how grave.

That’s just if we really, really, really wanted to do the castle raid. lol.

In response to the two possible catalysts, I think both could perhaps play a role in the beginning of actually fighting. It does mention in the books that there was fighting before the Pevensies arrived – in fact, they very nearly walked right into it, if you recall, when they didn’t believe Lucy and went a different way than Aslan had wanted them to go.

1.) This looks like an interesting thread. Just thought I’d mention that, hehe. And yes, if any injuries were inflicted, there could be problems. They are there to manage negotiations and with that would come some sort of protection against violence or open hostility, I should think.

2.) The medicine is another wonderful catalyst. Perhaps it isn’t even that someone gets greedy, per se, but takes it thinking that the Telmarine camp has more than enough while Caspian’s camp is dying so the person who takes it isn’t ill, but gives it to someone who is. Could cause a lot of trouble, and anger tossed in lots of directions – towards Caspian for allowing the Telmarines into the camp, towards Drinian and his party for having the poisoned medicine to begin with... to the person who took it for trusting Telmarine medicine... it can go on and on! How fuN!

-nods- I agree, let’s choose a course and let it go from there.

Oh, no, I meant no offense.  I'm good with sticking to canon.  I love canon.  -huggles canon-  I agree with you about the raid, Drin, definitely.  I don't think Miraz would go back, and the whole sick son idea is good, but perhaps a wee bit complicated.

And it's totally fine, I know everyone's been busy, and it's just hard to get a plot going when SO many characters are involved!  I love the way you have Miraz plotting stuff.  I read your posts - Drinian's post about the poisoned vial, for instance - and my jaw drops.

Speaking of which, that's a brilliant idea!  Of course Miraz would find a way to blame the Narnians.  ...And Reep is definitely up for the other option if Thal is.  (I'm not sure if he would be sorry or thrilled for being a catalyst xD  You know he thinks even Telmarine peace-keepers deserve his worst...)

I think we're mostly just picking and choosing the parts we like best or that work best for us, whether they come from the book, the movie, or our own imaginations.  ...Although I do tend to go with the book more than the movie, because it's what I prefer.

Re: the castle raid.  We don't have to do it, but it would be a way to let the battle groups and those who stay mostly at the castle interact.   Frankly, I wasn't too fond of the concept in the movie (though there were some parts in the raid I liked), but it could provide some interesting RPing.

And actually, following the movie a bit more might work better (despite the fact that I prefer the book) for the same reasons why they made the decisions to make the movie the way they did in the first place.  After all, the first half of the book, after the Pevensies get to Narnia and discover where they are, is mostly just Trumpkin telling the children what has gone on before.  Then they take awhile to get to the How (which means everyone else needs something else to do during that time), before they finally arrive and all that's really left is the big battle and getting everything settled happily ever after. Following the movie a bit more gets the Pevensies there faster, and gives everyone a bit more to do.  If people's characters are more based on the book, they can just change the motivations for doing things to be different than in the movie, if possible.  (It was really the movie characterizations that bugged me most, anyway).

And as for the two catalysts for the next battle, I think I like the second better, but either (or both!) sound good to me!

Hooray! Great ideas, all!  I think with our various and sometimes limited knowledge of these events (i.e. the movie conflicts with the book, the book doesn't elaborate on some things, the movie cuts out others), the idea of picking and choosing is spot-on. I think we'll cross bridges when we get there. (Now, I can't help but think of all the crossing of bridges that goes on in the movie/book. Hah.) So we'll see about the castle raid, depending on how things are going and how swiftly the Pevensie thread moves along.

Let's work on getting the Pevensies to the How as soon as we can so that we can move on with the direct battle and get them interacting. I do think Misha brings up a valid point in the thought of bringing the How/Miraz people and the Castle Miraz people together as well. But we'll see, eh?

As for the plot ideas, let's go with the vial for now. I may have an NPC Narnian (unless a played Narnian character wants to be the bearer of bad news) break in to this thread with the announcement that they must report back to Caspian and the Narnians -- a Narnian has died suspiciously while in the possession of one of Drinian's vials. Possibly Alexandra, Swiftshadow, Senzi, or Damien would be interested?

And as for the duel, that will/can be added ammunition, depending on how it goes! But as we don't know the outcome or progress of it, perhaps it is best to go with option 2, after all.

I offer Swiftshadow up for whatever you need her for. She can bear the news in the thread you linked, steal the vial (while I doubt she'd give it to anyone herself without knowing what was in it, she could take it and put it with her healing supplies, and someone could take it from there not knowing where it's from), or take it herself and die (though she'd have to get sick first, since she hasn't shown any signs of being sick thus far).  Or she could just be involved in the general chaos and finger pointing. Whatever works best for everyone!

As for everything else, I agree with the "wait and see" approach. Like a couple of people have said, it's more fun when not everything is planned out!

I agree, the raid would be a great way for more characters to interact. If we wanted some more drama, some of the Narnians that were left behind after the raid could be held captive, not necessarily killed. Miraz could ransom them. –shrugs- Or some of the Narnians could bring Telmarines back with them – or the Telmarine army could have some deserters (although, considering the epic fail that the raid is... I don’t know if that would be the best time to desert lol). And I agree, the best bet is to pick and choose between the book and movie.

I definitely like the vial as the primary catalyst for the battle. The duel will definitely cause more tension though. XD

If no one is opposed, I’ll start another open thread in which the whole thing comes out? An NPC Narnian/one of the current characters can still burst in on the thread Melissa linked and then the thread that I’ll start will take place directly after that.

Hey, all! This is a call to Old Narnian characters -- anyone want to rain on Drinian, Thal, and Dharr's parade in this thread?. We have some good (bah!) spirited banter going on in the C-Box. Perhaps someone would like to take it up inside the RPG! (Sakura? Damien? Alexandra? Choni?)

Caspian would have sent someone to tell the Telmarines that a Narnian was poisoned by a Telmarine vial of medicine; they're needed to appear before Caspian to sort this out. The Old Narnian messenger can take whatever spin on this they like --  trial is in order? A punishment? Etc.

While Drinian doesn't necessarily want anyone to think poorly of him, it would be so much fun for him to have frienemies. Or just enemies.

You know Reep wants to.  He is an old Narnian through and through!  I don't know if it would exactly be feasible, though.  He carries some resentment of Drinian even though he hasn't met the fellow (simply because he is jealous and wants Caspian's attention for himself xD) and it would be hilarious to have them meet, I think.  As long as everyone else in the thread doesn't mind me jumping in, I'd love to.

He's not the best choice to send to the Telmarines - he'd probably attempt solo combat - but he and Drin = definite friends in the future.  For now... who knows.

Hmm... I'd follow up Drinian's idea during the trial they like get in a stormy side of things and sonner, it's an all-out war. That sounds definitely interesting. I suppose now I'd be making my Phoebe muse avilable. She'll be able to stand a fight even she's a girl. This way, we can get some activity. The Old Narnians could send someone definitely to lead the attack against the Telmarines.

Reep: Jump on in! If he's the only one that offers -- or rushes off before Caspian vetoes it . . .who's to say no?

Barge on in! Cheesy And yes. I find it hillarious that they're likely sort of enemies before good friends. This will be fun to play out.

Awesome.

I just need to make a few minor edits to my opening post, and then I'll reply to Reep. Might as well send Reep on into the thread though so you can carry that out. I might be MIA until Tuesday, today should be the final day of moving, I hope.

Okay.  Well, Reep's with Swiftshadow right now.  She's insulting him by insinuating that he's lazy, so don't be surprised if he runs off to the Telmarines with the intent of killing them all!  xD  I'm not sure how that will work with the thread that Reep and Caspian are in though (is anyone else ever going to join that?!).  I don't know if Reep's discussion with the Telmarines would be before or after the Catalyst...?

I'll throw Swiftshadow into the Catalyst thread sometime this weekend.  Getting her even more angry will be fun. Tongue

Edit: I'm thinking Catalyst goes before Reep's discussion w/the Telmarines, but I'm not sure where the Reep/Swifthshadow's thread comes in. Maybe right before the Catalyst one?

Edit 2: Although in the Catalyst, Reep does say he's not been in the camp...

Well, I think it probably goes Swiftshadow, Catalyst, then attack on Telmarines, so Reep can get progressively angrier.  Though I think in Catalyst I say that Reepicheep was coming from a post with Thal...?  I don't even remember.  I might have to do some editing there :/

This is all getting very interesting, guys. I'll have to see if Damien can join that thread.

As for the castle raid, I think it would be really fun to do. Namely because of the gryphon parts, and I'm planning on having four total gryphon charries. So it would be fun for me. lol  Grin. It would also be interesting to have the soldier folk/castle folk interact a little.  Smiley

Hey, it's fun to throw your characters into situations and just see what happens!

So Julie, did we decide that the Swiftshadow/Reep thread comes immediately before "Catalyst", or what?
