.General Personality:If you had to sum up Swiftshadow in one word, the word you would choose would be "passion" This centauress never does anything half-baked. She has complete dedication and loyalty to those people and causes she cares about, and complete animosity towards those she doesn’t like. She fights for what she feels is right with all she has. She is brave, patient, and utterly persistent. Swiftshadow loves to take action, and therefore, when she can't do anything about a situation she cares deeply about, she hates it.
Most of Swiftshadow’s life has been spent in the service of the cause of the Old Narnians. The idea of freedom is sacred to her; she hates that she’s spent most of her time in hiding. She is devoted to those she loves: her husband, her parents and the rest of her family, the Old Narnians. On the other hand, Swiftshadow completely abhors all Telmarines (with the exception of Caspian, and she hated even him at first).
Swiftshadow has a very clear cut view of right and wrong, and she’s staunchly on the side of what she views as right. For her, there’s never a gray area. She tends to make snap judgments about people and situations, and acts on them as if there were no doubt that she were right. Her passion can cloud her thinking at times, and she can be irritatingly obstinate. However, if she finds for sure she was wrong, she is deeply sorry and does whatever she can to amend matters. Proving to her that she’s wrong about a person or situation, though, can be a daunting task, for she finds it difficult to overcome any prejudices.
If Swiftshadow respects you, she will be unfailingly loyal and obedient (though that doesn’t mean she won’t get her two cents in if she disagrees.) But if she doesn’t respect you, even if you are her superior, she will have no regard for what you say. Like most centaurs, Swiftshadow has a rather high view of her race. Therefore, if you are not a centaur, it may take a little more for you to gain her admiration. However, even if she may feel that you are her inferior, she is never condenscending.
Swiftshadow is a little untidy. She doesn't like cleaning, and just doesn't see a need for keeping everything spic and span. She’s not lazy, though. If something needs to be kept clean and maintained, she will gladly do it. For example, Swiftshadow absolutely loves archery. It’s a way for her to focus her mind and relax, as well as a skill she can use in the service of the Old Narnians. Because she knows how important her bow and arrow is to herself and her cause, she keeps her equipment in better shape than most others do.
Character HistoryParents: Landrhythm (father) and Waterpebble (mother)
Siblings: None
Husband: Nightwind
General History:Swiftshadow was born to two active members of the Old Narnian resistance, Landrhythm and Waterpebble. Like all Old Narnians, she and her family had to stay hidden in the forest. Therefore, for most of her life, Swiftshadow rarely saw humans, especially as the superstitious Telmarines generally stayed away from the forest.
In her early years, Swiftshadow had a good education, as all centaurs do. Her favorite subject was history, and she especially loved hearing about Narnia’s Golden Age. However, the stories of what Narnia was like in that time made her long even more to be free of the Telmarine oppression. Swiftshadow found math rather boring. This is probably one of the reasons she's not good at astronomy (or astrology/divination). She can do it to some extent, as she is a centauress, but since so many others are better at it, she tends to leave it up to them.
Landrhythm and Waterpebble taught their daughter from an early age to despise the Telmarines and work hard towards freedom for the Narnians. She cannot remember a time when she did not share their passion for a free Narnia. Centaurs as a race are fighters and healers, and because Swiftshadow saw that these things could be useful in the Old Narnian resistance, she worked hard to become as good as possible at them. In the art of healing, she is “only” average for a centaur, but that still means her skill is nothing to laugh at. And with her chosen weapon, the bow and arrow, Swiftshadow is said to be nearly as good as the legendary Queen Susan.
Even while in school, Swiftshadow had worked with the resistance. But once she finished her education, working towards freedom for the Old Narnians became her sole purpose. Her main duty was to training the members of the resistance in archery, and she is a captain of a small but deadly squad of archers. She also worked towards gathering support for the cause and creating plans for the future.
Swiftshadow met her husband, Nightwind, through her work with the resistance, for he was as dedicated to the cause as she was. They have now been happily married for 15 years, though as of yet they have no children. While she would love to have children of her own, she and Nightwind have decided to wait, so that they can focus on the resistance.
Telmarine politics only mattered to Swiftshadow in terms of what it meant for the resistance. She cared little when power changed from the hands of one king to the next, even when that change occurred because of an assassination. To her, a Telmarine is a Telmarine. The Telmarines were the ones who killed so many Narnians and forced the rest into hiding, and she’d seen no reason not to hate them all.
Therefore, when Caspian first showed up, she found it hard to trust him. He was a Telmarine, after all. However, because Glenstorm, whom Swiftshadow had great respect for, accepted the prince, she grudgingly followed suit and did nothing to oppose Caspian’s leadership. Still, it took awhile for her to fully accept the prince for his own sake. It was his humility and dedication to their cause that finally won her over in the end. Now that Caspian has proven himself in her eyes, she follows him unswervingly.
Other/Notes: Anyone is welcome to play her husband, Nightwind!
