My thoughts (note that I am a purist when it comes to books being made into movies)

It was really really really good. They did such an excellent job with the sets and costumes and stuff. So amazing!!! And I really, really like how they expanded on Peter's character. I can totally see how he would have had that big pride issue and it really worked with me...although the dryads did look like ents to me...this is NARNIA not LOTR. Anyways...that didn't bother me too much because it was still a really awesome awesome battle scene so props to Hollywood for that. And they didn't murder the book like they have before *cough*elleenchanted*/cough* They did changed Susan's character a bucket load too...in the book she is Susan the Gentle and stuff and in the movie all of the sudden she is Zelda Warrior Princess Xena whatever. Totally not accurate but I'm not too upset with it. I think they did pretty good but...

AH!!! I want to slap my head on the desk and murder the director and throw popcorn at the screen!!! They had this romance thing between Caspian and Susan. Okay, so I can kinda see it - the looks and caring and stuff - especially since they are TONS older in the movies than they are in the books but....did they have to have a BIG KISS at the end? It was soooooooo out of character for Narnia and C.S. Lewis and everything. I was yelling at the screen and Mom kept telling me to be quiet. A peck on the cheek I could see but a kiss? Come on, Hollywood. No need to butcher something that was never even there.

Mom keeps telling me that I'm over reacting but this is big. Like how Marian died at the end of Robin Hood season 2 big. Arg.
I'm getting over it a little bit (I wrote that right after I saw the movie).  But it still really bugs me that they added that...it's just not right.

EW! I KNOW! GAWSH! THE KISS?!?!?! Psh, Hollywood was being a bit overly dramatic with the ending of that movie. I hated how they had to add that little "make out" session in it just to get a rise of people who can't read or refuse to read the books when they are AMAZING (It wasn't really a make out but still...)! I think that there is a plus though... I can tell if people are lieing about actually the book when I say, "Was your favorite part of the book the kiss at the end?" lol!

I'll start out generally.

I've seen a few movies based on books, stylizing themselves as translations of these books, when they really are adaptations. Harry Potter comes to mind instantly, which intended to fashion itself as a visual interpretation of the books, but soon lost itself in the interpretation portion. Eragon is another failure of the book-to-movie translation which is quite popular. From these films, then comparing to Prince Caspian, I have to say that this adaptation (and let me say that this is an adaptation, even if LLW was more of a translation) is probably one I actually like. Which is high praise from me as I tend to review books before I go to the movies that base themselves on the books, so I know what to look for, and I'm often overly critical of the movies.

So, suffice it to say I'm not going to take the purist's viewpoint on this movie. From a production standpoint, I would say that Prince Caspian is definitely a difficult book to translate to the screen, especially with its flashback style of storytelling in the midst of a linear story. I am glad that Adamson diverted from a translation in that sense, since attempting to include all of the flashbacks and nuances of the story might have killed the audience' interest in a movie moreso than for a book.

The movie started off well, drawing the audience right into the plot. Anybody who hadn't read the book would have been able to understand quickly what was going on from the dialogue and the events in the first few minutes. I was surprised how far the Telmarine soldiers rode into the forest, and that the horn was blown because of it. However, moving the horn call up in the sequence of events allowed for the Pevensies to be brought in right away. The transition from that scene to the real world of the Pevensies was well done, almost seamlessly bridging the worlds as the horn had done at that moment.

I wasn't a fan of the scene with Susan and the nerdy boy at the newsstand, it was awkward and unnecessary, in my view. I can appreciate the actor who played the boy got more of a cameo this time (he appeared in the train scene in LLW) and it did further the development of the Susan we hear about in The Last Battle. It just seemed out of place to me.

What Adamson did with Peter's development since LLW, I was in an amazed awe about. That was exactly how I could imagine Peter feeling after being torn from Narnia and parted for a year. From being High King to being a normal kid, having to put up with the immaturity and the social tensions, the toll it took showed very well. The way that each of the children responded to being back on Earth was apparent as well, with Susan's acceptance of the situation, Peter's frustration, and Lucy's anticipation. The only one I didn't really get a reading from on this was Edmund, he didn't really seem to show much of a reaction, and I was disappointed in that. Perhaps I'll have to see the movie again to glean his perspective a bit better.

I was glad that Gregson-Williams kept the "One Day" song in the cues for the return to Narnia scene, it was very moving to me and made a needed connection to the last film. I'm disappointed the song didn't make it into the soundtrack, though, I would have really liked to his this mix of it.

When the camera showed us the ruined castle, I was stunned at how it looked. I was almost surprised none of the children recognized it, as I did right off the bat from the ending scenes of LLW. Kudos, though, to the visual crew for all the work it would have taken to construct that. Very beautiful, and still stunning, even as a ruin of its former self.

I just saw the movie! It was Awesome. But I do have to say that the "romance" b/t Caspian and Susan was alittle out of character. And atleast the kissing scene wasn't drawn out. I almost started crying at the end, when Lucy kept looking back at Aslan. I wanted to bawl so bad.

I loved the movie, and although the kissing wasn't part of the book, I still saw it as righteous, I mean I don't think C.S. Lewis would mind in a littel romance so long as it was appropriate, the reason it wasn't in the book in any way was because romance is not something that little children should be reading about.

It was excellent, even the walking trees was good

I saw it twice this weekend, and loved it. I was very pleased that the Pevensies' characters were expanded on. Although Peter and Susan seemed a bit controlling through the film, I appreciated the focus on them since PC is technically the last Narnia film they'll be appearing in. Lucy was very sweet even though she'd grown up quite a bit since LWW, and Edmund! Oh, Edmund... *giggle* He was great. He was very amusing and definitely had went through the most changes since LWW. Caspian was pretty good, I would have preferred someone a bit younger, but he was impressive nonetheless. I was also very pleased with Reepicheep, Miraz, Cornelius, etc. I loved all the CGI, the music, the landscape... everything. The only part that I was a little uneasy about was the part just before Jadis appeared, with the hag and the werewolf. That was a little creepy... I could certainly handle it, but it was creepy. And the kiss... I thought it was fine, and I have no objection to it, and I was glad it wasn't really anything more than a quick goodbye thing.

Overall, the movie was spectacular. It really got me back into the Narnian spirit. I didn't want it to end.
