Age: 18

Character Basics
Full Name:Daena Corrino
Alias(es)/Nickname(s): Dae (pronounced "Day")
Gender: Female
Age: 11
Species: human
Status/Title: Princess
Affiliation: Archland, although she knows, or cares, little about the war.

Character Appearance
Hair/Fur/Feathers: Brown, naturally wavy. It reaches about mid-back when it’s loosed; which it most often is, because her mother says she is simply too young to wear her hair up…unless it’s a special occasion.
Eyes: Blue
Overall: Daena is very small and waif like. Her face is oval shaped with her eyes and mouth mostly dominating it.  Her eyes are shaped like almonds and are evenly spaced from her nose.  They often change color with what she wears, as most blue eyes do, varying from a very light blue to almost a gray. Her nose is slightly down turned and neither large nor small. Her lips are a light rose color and are quite large and full. They are usually found in some sort of a smirk. Daena has an impish quality about her, as if she is just merely itching to get into trouble.

Her clothes are of a more grown-up taste. As if by doing so she will make herself appear older. She keeps them, or at least she tries to, impeccably clean; often changing many times a day. After all, what is the use of having all those clothes if one never wears them? Her hair is usually pulled back from her face with some elaborate clip, to keep it out of her eyes. She is always seen with her tear-drop necklace that her eldest brother, Cain, gave her. He once told her that it was a magic necklace, from ‘Old Narnia’ and she believed him. So she never takes it off.

Portrayal: Jodelle Ferland

General Personality: Daena, being the fifth child of the king, and his first daughter, was (and is still) quite spoiled.  She has become accustomed to the idea and as a result often…reacts strongly when she is denied her desires. Daena has become so apt at this ability of ‘getting things’ that she has discovered which tactic to use on whichever member of her family that is doing the denying. For example, to get things from her mother, Daena would simply lock herself in her room for a while, neither eating nor allowing anyone admittance into her quarters.  However, if she wanted something from say, her father, she might take to weeping uncontrollably. You see, to Daena, each person has buttons that they do not like pushed and all she simply has to do is find the right button. Suffice it to say, the young princess will do anything it takes to get her way.

Daena also tends to think that she knows everything. Or at least, much more than ‘ordinary’ people know. Though she does enjoy reading, if she were truthful with herself and others, she would have to admit to reading mostly…romantic poems and old lore.  But of course, she pretends to know a vast amount of other things and by doing so often tends to make herself look rather silly.  Most of her offhand comments get written off as silly ramblings of an eleven year-old girl, which only angers Daena. As a result she searches for everything about the subject, devouring anything she finds, whether it be fact or fiction, so that she is ‘well prepared’ for the next time. Of course…being only eleven she has a rather short attention span…so the devouring usually lasts about one book before she goes back to her old lore.

Daena aches to be seen as a young lady instead of a child. She longs for the days when princes from all the lands will vie and yearn for her hand. Of course, all of her ideas are stained with those thoughts of a romantic, knights in shining armor and the like. However, she is always putting her foot in her mouth, or simply stating exactly what she thinks about any given subject, therefore getting labeled as a headstrong girl. Which she of course is…though one must admit that trait doesn’t scream ‘vie’ for me.

Character History
Family:
Parents: Nain and Calista (King and Queen of Archenland)

Siblings:
Brothers: Cain (20), Cade (17), Aiden (15), Aeryn (13)
Sister: Ranae (7)

General History:
Daena was born the fifth child of Nain and Calista the King and Queen of Archenland. Not exactly the prime spot for those of royal births. In such cases as the saying goes, “If you aren’t first, you’re last”. But Daena had some other things going for her. Firstly, she was the first daughter. Daughters are good for many things, politically; one could offer a daughter’s hand in order to commit to peace.  Secondly, she had a knack for ‘directing’ others. A born leader, you might say. A trait that is also good for royalty. Though she was cheeky and often was found either in mischief or as being the one who had orchestrated it, she was usually patted on the head and sent to bed.
Upon turning four, Daena received the most dreadful news. One night at dinner, her parents announced that they were going to have yet another baby. For a moment Daena allowed herself to be happy, another baby wouldn’t be so bad…would it? Then amidst the cheers, she heard it. Another girl.  How could they? Was she not enough?  Even at four she proved to be a jealous child. From that moment on, she hated her new sister. Even still she distains Ranae.
Daena’s early childhood was (and still is) a simple one. To be precise, she was doted on by all of her family members and rarely denied anything her heart desired. And even still, if she were denied it, she often found ways of getting those desires. Suffice it to say that Dae’s life was practically perfect. Excepting the addition of Ranae, there was nothing she could say was ‘wrong’ and Ranae could be ignored easily enough.
The sibling she was most close to was Aeryn. The two were only a few years apart, and both had a yearning for mischief, so they were bound to be friends. Though perhaps ‘friends’ is too strong of a word; in Dae’s mind they were friends, at least as long as Aeryn did as she told him to. And though he was not as easily persuaded as Daena’s elder brothers and parents, Aeryn usually resented, if he was bored enough.
When Daena turned seven she was given a horse.  A headstrong white stallion, which she named Albion; this was her true friend. Who could ask for anything better? Something that would do as you said…most of the time…without any sass. Riding Albion was her life. Nothing could replace the feeling of the wind through her hair.

Another suitor. Why were they continuing to push him? Caspian sat on his throne, his eyes closed. Breathing slowly through his nostrils. He didn’t know how much more of this he could take. Didn’t they see that his heart belonged to another? Yes, she was no longer here in Narnia, but that did not take his feelings away. He /would/ find a way to get to her. Susan. Just thinking of her brought gooseflesh to his arms.

At least this one had been pretty.  But the beauty went only skin deep. There was an empty space between her ears. She couldn’t even talk to him. All she could do was giggle. He was beginning to despise giggling.  She was still standing in front of him. Gazing at him with hopeful green eyes. If only she were quiet all the time. Then perhaps this arrangement might work. But Caspian just didn’t want someone to look at. He wanted someone to talk with. To be with, forever. And this girl. Just wasn’t it.

“I’m sorry Trufflehunter.” He said shaking his head. Hopefully the badger would know what he meant. He didn’t want to be rude to the poor girl. She was already having enough trouble as it was.

“Yes Sire.” The badger said, then turning to the girl, “My dear, have you seen the orchards?”

At the girl’s giggle, the badger left the King’s side and grabbed her arm. “I would love to have the honor of showing them to you. I’m sure you would find them most invigorating.”

The girl shot the young king a parting glance and then followed, more or less, Trufflehunter. Caspian let out a sigh of relief. By the Lion’s mane. He wouldn’t be able to take much more of this. He wouldn’t have at all except, Trufflehunter had asked him. And he couldn’t turn down an old friend. Not even for something like this.

He rose and stretched. But seeing as this was the fifth potential queen of Narnia that he had seen today…he would say that he’d seen enough. He reached a hand to his left shoulder and proceeded to rub the kinks from it.  Such a long day. Perhaps he would cancel his ride on Destrier today and soak in the tub for a while.  But then the thought of his horse, expecting his daily ride and being denied…he couldn’t do it. Besides, wouldn’t a hot soak feel better after a ride? Besides, a ride would clear his head.

He stepped down from the dais and headed for the side door. There was a lesser, but not too significant, chance that he wouldn’t be spotted if he went out this way.  He pushed open the door, and peered to his left, then to his right. It was clear. No guards, no hopeful candidates, nothing. Silence blanketed the hall like freshly fallen snow.

If he was going to do it, he’d better do it now. Caspian took a deep breath and exited the throne room. He was now in the corridor. That had been easy enough. He walked down the hallway trying his best to stick to the shadows. But his turquoise tunic did little to hide him. In fact, it practically shouted ‘I’m the prince! Here I am!! Come and reclaim me for more queen screening!’  He sighed. This plan was hopeless. There was just too much that he had to do to get out of here. First he had to make it all the way up to his suite, change into his riding habit, sneak back down the hall and out into the stables, saddle Destrier all on his own (which wasn’t that hard, he just hadn’t done it in a while) and then finally get out the palace gates. All without running into Trufflehunter. Simple…right?

He sighed. Sometimes he hated himself. Why couldn’t he just tell Trufflehunter the truth? He didn’t want to see any more potential queens of Narnia. In his mind, there was only one. Susan. But she could no longer be a queen in Narnia. So he would have to find a way to her. And he would find her.

But all he asked for today was a little alone time. Was that too much to ask? While his heart said ‘no’, his mind said ‘yes’. After all, he was a king now. He needed to place boyish affections behind him and focus on what was best for the Narnians. And what exactly was best for them? A queen who didn’t know them? Or one that had saved them countless times from danger? They needed someone. Now. And Susan couldn’t be that person. No matter how much his heart wanted her to be.

He needed to get away. He needed to think. No one would miss him…not for a few hours. Well, that wasn’t entirely true. They /would/ miss him, but Caspian would simply leave a not for Trufflehunter explaining that he needed a breather, and then they would have to deal with it.

One more passageway. Then he would be in his chambers. First part of plan escape from suitors, nearly complete. He would make it. Yes! He could almost feel the cool autumn breeze ruffling his hair. Taste the freshness of last night’s rain…so close to freedom.

“Sire? The next candidate is waiting for you…” Trufflehunter’s voice cut through the silence like a knife. So close. He had been so close to freedom. His imaginary breeze flittered away, the taste of the rain, turned sour in his mouth. He’d been discovered, and now, he would be hauled off to prison again.

“Oh. I was unaware that there was another one.” Caspian said, voice void of all emotion. Just the mere thought of seeing another candidate…filled his bones with lead. It was like he was rooted to the floor. He couldn’t even turn and face his old friend. Oh Aslan. Why did you have to take Susan away? He walked towards the side door, peering to his left, and then to his right. He didn’t want to get caught. Not that he’d be in trouble, but he didn’t want Trufflehunter to shove another candidate on him. He needed space. All clear, for now.
