Age: 16
How did you find us: I’ve been here for a while.
Rules Password: [Password Accepted ~Cara]

Character Basics
Name: Kalo Ashclaw
Alias(es)/Nickname(s): known under the alias of “Ash”
Gender: male
Age: 83 (the equivalent of 20)
Race: gryphon
Status/Title: spy
Affiliation: Narnia

Character Appearance
Hair: none
Eyes: icy blue
Overall: Kalo is a muscular and powerfully built gryphon. He has very strong legs and a strong body, and is much more adapted to power on the ground than most gryphons. He has a short wingspan and is good at moving between trees and rocks while flying. In the open sky, however, he is lacking in skill or finesse. He is excellent at climbing, jumping, and running. He is a fairly large gryphon, about 500 pounds. He has a sleek body, and light footsteps, giving him great ability for stealth. Kalo, though large, is very quiet and can sneak up on anyone to within at least twenty feet. Most he can get even closer to before they notice, especially humans. Kalo has a deep chest and thick legs, making him appear large and muscular even from a distance.

The majority of Kalo’s coloration is a light, ashen gray. His feathers are marked with small, infrequent flecks of darker gray. His fur is subtly marked with slightly darker gray stripes, which are hard to see unless looked closely upon. His wings are tipped in darker gray, which is especially visible in bright light. His thick tail is tipped in a small, rounded tuft of darker gray feathers with white on the very tip. The scales on his forelegs are a dull gray, and they end with large black talons. Kalo’s ears are tipped with black. His feathers and fur are very fluffy and often have a ruffled appearance, especially around his upper body and the end of his tail. His feathers are very thick and ruffled on the top of his head, and on his throat, neck, and chest. He has thick feathers on his elbows, and thick fur on his legs. His tail is fluffy for a gryphon, not the usual sleek and smooth-furred lion’s tail.

Kalo has a large, blue-gray beak that curves to a deadly point. His icy blue eyes are set near the beak, giving him a determined and relentless expression. The cold color of his eyes makes him look distant and unemotional. He has unusually long ears for a gryphon, and the fact that they are usually perked upright to listen does not help that image. They are tipped in black, which makes them even more noticeable. His fierce, perpetually serious expression is offset by the large ears, making him look a little more approachable.

General Personality:

Kalo is a loner by nature, preferring his own company to that of other’s. He enjoys the silence and solitude of the darkest parts of the forest, liking to reflect upon things. The sound of the wind blowing through the trees and his own feathers is all he wishes to hear. If others try to talk to him, he will answer briskly and vaguely, and will usually leave as soon as he can. Despite this, he is not impolite. When inquiries are made towards him and questions are asked of him, he will be even vaguer, and will usually not reply. He does not like it when attention is drawn towards him, and would prefer to remain invisible amongst a crowd. This adds to his stealthy nature. He can slip by others unnoticed, even though he is a large and powerful gryphon.

Kalo is very distrustful of others, and does not reveal anything to anyone unless he deems it a necessity. He only answers to those in command of the Narnian army, and will not follow orders or commands from anyone but them, directly. He trusts his own opinion over everyone else’s, though he respects the opinions of some, mainly those higher in command and the few other creatures he respects. It takes a lot to gain Kalo’s respect, but if it is gained, a markedly different attitude is shown from the gryphon. Kalo is much more friendly and open to those he respects, though, because of his personality, this is still not very much. He has few friends, but he is not unfriendly. He is simply quiet and avoids contact with others.

Kalo has a strong dislike for Telmarines, due to past events. His status as a spy for Narnia is the perfect opportunity to exact his revenge, and it also rarely brings him into contact with others. Despite the fact that he is a gryphon, Kalo is an excellent spy. He is silent and his coloration makes him a perfect nighttime agent. Kalo is very cautious and will not go into anything without thinking it through, first. He rarely gets very angry or very happy, but his muted emotions can be a weakness, as they may erupt without warning. This could be very dangerous for his enemies, or for himself. The gryphon is not close to anyone, and hasn’t been for a long time. He is afraid of loss and is unwilling to become very good friends with others. This could change, however, as Kalo is becoming more lonely with time. His mostly solitary life is finally starting to get to him.

Character History
Parents: Markee Ashwind (mother), Zerin Stoneclaw
Siblings: none

General History: Kalo was born deep in the northern forests of Narnia. His parents had made their home in a remote area, in a cave on a cliff in the center of a deep, dark pine forest, where the world was cloaked in shadow. Kalo was born to this world, of secrecy and hiding. His parents warned him from the day of his birth to keep himself hidden. Stealth was the best way to survive, especially in a world controlled by Telmarines. When the most powerful group wanted you dead, it was best to keep them from knowing your existence. Kalo was the only son of the pair, and he learned quickly. He caught his first prey at a much younger age than most gryphons, and his parents knew he would be a talented adult.

Unfortunately, the gryphons’ attempt to hide was not enough. The Telmarines began to cut down the forest to the south. Kalo’s father went to investigate, and said that they were working their way closer. One night, Kalo woke up from a bad dream, and crept down to the stream below the cliff for a drink. After standing back up, he noticed a two-legged creature slinking back into the shadows of the forest. Thinking he was just imagining things, Kalo ignored it and went back to sleep. The next day, when he was out playing on top of the cliff, he heard a commotion below. The human had led others to his family’s cave. Soldiers had gathered at the base of the cliff, and were shooting flaming arrows into the cave mouth. Kalo, still only the size of a large dog, ran down the path and started trying to attack the Telmarines. However, his mother was able to get out of the cave, with several grave arrow-wounds, and picked him up. She flew back into the cave with Kalo safely with her.

Kalo was terrified, but his parents comforted him, saying that the Telmarines would leave soon and they could escape. Before they could, though, large bundles of grass and wood were thrown into the entrance of the cave and set alight by burning arrows. The gryphon family rushed desperately to the back of their cave, but there was only one other opening. The opening was too small for Markee and Zerin to get through, so they pushed their son to freedom and told him to join the resistance.

Kalo longed to stay, but the appearance of more soldiers forced him to flee. He left the cliff and survived on his own in the forest. As the Telmarines continued to cut and burn more of his home, he had to learn to be more and more stealthy and quiet. No trace of him was ever found by humans. Kalo quickly grew strong enough to leave the forest, but he still did not know where the resistance was. One day, he came across a Narnian blue jay that had been visiting the forest as a spy. The jay told him where the resistance was, and Kalo left the forest as soon as he could.

The young gryphon was 37 when he joined the then-tiny Narnian force, under the name of Ash. It consisted mainly of a few unorganized creatures who were working as saboteurs and spies, and little else. Nothing of value was really being destroyed, even. Kalo helped the resistance grow, working as a spy and recruiter in his early days. As he got older and the forces grew stronger, though, Kalo grew uncomfortable. He disliked being around so many. He began to spend more and more time on his spying missions, getting closer to the enemy with each trip. He even did some assassin work, without permission.

On one occasion, Kalo had decided to kill the overseer of the expanse of land that had once been his home forest. Now, it was farm fields. Once he got into the governor’s room, however, he found the devious man waiting for him. The Telmarine offered to let Kalo live, and even be treated like royalty once the Narnians were destroyed. However, he would have to work as a double-agent, and join the Telmarines. Never had a Telmarine allowed a Narnian a chance to switch sides. His words were a little tempting to Kalo, but the gryphon refused. However, he left the governor alive, and the man left his offer open should Kalo wish to take it.

Kalo spent the next few years partaking in spying missions, though he avoided that particular region. He has only just learned of Caspian’s joining the resistance.
