Character Basics
Name: Princess Faraza Hashem
Alias(es)/Nickname(s): Azi (by her close friends)
Gender: Female
Age: Fifteen
Race: Human
Status/Title: Princess of Calormen
Affiliation: Calormen

Character Appearance
Hair: Faraza has silky dark brown, almost black hair that is thick with a gentle curl though its not unmanageable and reaches mid back. She does not have a preference whether she wears it up or down.
Eyes: Faraza's eyes are open, almond shaped and slightly wide set. They're a warm brown variegating with more reddish tones toward the centre and framed in long dark lashes.
Overall: Standing at her full height of five foot three, Faraza is not exactly an intimidating figure to behold. Luckily for her, she is rarely worried about being intimidating, since it's not part of her nature. Her oval, if a bit short face is prone to smiling and serene, if not carefree looks. Her nose is straight without inheriting her family's more aquiline nose. Her right nostril is pierced and is currently a small diamond stud. Faraza's open and honest eyes sit underneath arched and well groomed eyebrows. Her mouth is slightly wide with full Cupid’s bow lips which almost never form a pout or a scowl.

Faraza, at fifteen, has grown into her petite body with her womanly curves already formed with modest hips and small breasts that are perhaps a source of contention with her parents when it comes to her coming marriage. Her skin is caramel, matching her royal Calormene heritage and has a healthy glow to it from her physical activity. She carries herself with a graceful air that is still carefree in her countenance. Both vivid and pastel colours look good on Faraza and she dislikes wearing dark or mute colours, it is perhaps her only vanity.

Portrayal: Freida Pinto

Character Personality
Likes:
  • Cats - for all of her life, Faraza has been a cat person. She enjoys their independent natures and likes falling asleep to their purring. Her favourite cat is Mihir but he prefers not to be called something as lowly and normal as a cat.
  • New things - Faraza leaps at the thrill of discovering something new, trying something for the first time, no matter what it is. She'll never turn down the opportunity to do or try something she has never before.
  • Horseback riding - a ladylike exercise, Faraza has a good seat on a horse and wishes she had more time to ride.
  • Puzzles - Puzzles are like discovering something so that's why they interest her, whether they're word, number, logic problems or riddles, Faraza has a keen mind for problem-solving.
  • Books - While they never can be substituted for the real experience, Faraza enjoys reading about the world, especially when she knows that she might never see with her own eyes the places in them.
Dislikes:
  • Dogs- Faraza finds them loud and uncouth but she is not afraid of them, she just prefers other creatures.
  • The Dark- Faraza is terrified of the dark and to venture out in it needs some sort of light.
  • Being alone- A mostly social creature, Faraza enjoys the company of others and has rarely been alone in her whole life. Of course, a horse or Mihir count as company as well. She likes having someone around her, especially to talk to.
  • Menial Tasks- Luckily as a princess this rarely comes up but if Faraza finds herself having to embroider or sew some large project something else usually catches her interest and she therefore loses interest in the original task. If she was ever asked to clean in her life or do something like laundry she would probably grow bored of it as well.
Strengths:
  • Inventive- Faraza possesses a mind that likes to make solutions, and they're usually not the solutions, or at least the process in which she arrives at them, that other people make. In this vein, Faraza's favourite subjects for lessons has always been mathematics and philosophy where she can devise to her hearts content.
  • Clever- There's a lot of things people could (and do) call Faraza but airheaded is not one of them. She has a keen mind, even if the rest of the world isn't sure how to follow along with it.
  • Patient-Unless it's boring or an extremely tedious person, Faraza for the most part is patient with people and inanimate subjects. She rarely gets frustrated with difficult problems and she enjoys charting the slow progress of the sky above her in astronomy.
  • Difficult to anger- Passionate anger is not in her nature and she'd rather be happy and is quite determined to be so.
  • Eager to be pleased- Faraza doesn't lay herself at other people's feet so that they will love her, but instead does her best to give people as many chances as they need to be friendly and on good terms with her.
Weaknesses:
  • Daredevil- Faraza enjoys trying new things, and not all these new things are acceptable ladylike things or safe. She'll climb trees of all sorts to see the view from the top of them, she'll pick up a sword to see what it feels like, try any sort of food at least once. She's rarely hesitant about anything.
  • Terrified of darkness- Perhaps her most paralysing fear, Faraza cannot be in the dark. She will break down into hysterics. To combat this, she always has candles in her pockets and something to light them.
  • Short- It may not seem like a weakness but everyone always expects grace, bravery and countenance from tall, queen-like figures. Faraza may be brave and graceful but she is short and is mistaken for being younger than she is. She is also tended to be treated more delicately and it interferes with her risk taking nature.
  • Absent minded- Faraza doesn't always voice the ideas in her head so she'll go from one subject to the next and the rest of the world struggles to catch up. An idea will hit her and she will drop what she was doing or the conversation she was having to go try it out.
  • Hard to get close to- Faraza is so blithe and good natured, it seems difficult for anyone to mean much to her. She can easily leave all her friends behind in the pursuit of something new and not be sad, to her they'll still be her friends and there so much to see out there, but it makes it hard to be her friend.

General Personality: While Faraza is only fifteen, she finds herself almost fully grown both physically and mentally. She is a pleasant, well spoken, young woman who is eager for everyone around her to be as happy as she is. By no means is she passive in this nature though; Faraza is assertive and confident and is more adept at being a leader than a follower. She handles conflict with a serene countenance using her intelligence and patience to keep arguments from escalating into larger conflicts. Faraza has a long fuse and rarely gets annoyed, let alone angry, and when she does she speaks with deliberation, while her voice may be strained and she may flush with colour.

She prefers to be carefree and instead of mourning the loss of her friends and her home in her marriage to an Archenland lord, Faraza is excited to travel and to see new lands and try new things. She hopes she will learn much in the new court and does something new, eat different food and dress in different clothing than she is used to. While she knows she will have a husband and duties, Faraza is excited to meet new people, including him, without holding any notion about falling in love at first sight. In this respect it can be hard to get along with Faraza for it seems on the outside that her friends could be replaced and she would still be content, if she would even notice. However there are people whom she considers very good friends and she is able, mostly in private with them to show exactly how much she loves them. While not showing favouritism in public is good policy, it makes some believe Faraza's good nature and friendliness to be false; which is a mistake she has had to correct when it becomes a conflict.

Her personality makes Faraza a blithe and vivacious person but it also makes her quirky. She enjoys having fun and storytelling and among her friends she interrupts their own stories to make them more interesting. Faraza is inventive and her solution to problems may not be the most obvious but it works just as good or better. She is spontaneous and may interrupt a lesson or a gathering to (politely) do something entirely different on a whim. She is mostly able to ignore when people complain about things she wants to try but eagerly drinks in good opinion and is rarely let down when she tries something.

Faraza is terrified of the dark, or at least, the absence of light, and sleeps with a lantern or candlelight at all times. Not exactly scared of the dark, Faraza can go outside at night as long as she has a candle or a lantern, or in desperation, a full, bright moon. With a light, she is able to participate in astronomy, an activity she enjoys. Her companion, Mihir, has lately made this fear easier to manage. However he has warned her that he should not be relied on as a crutch and that she needs to face her fear.

    Character History
    Parents:
Aamireesh Hashem, Tisroc of Calormen (53)- Father
      Mysha Hashem (42)- Mother
    Siblings:
      Raheel Hashem (22)- Brother
      Nabila Hashem (13)- Sister

    General History:

Faraza was born the second child, and eldest daughter, or the Tisroc of Calormen, Aamireesh Hashem and his wife Mysha Hashem. This privileged birth meant a very structured childhood for Faraza. Quite uninteresting so being a princess. She was handed to a wet nurse almost immediately in hopes that her mother would get pregnant again as soon as possible, hopefully with another son. Faraza spent her early years in the nursery, amusing herself with her nurses and the endless supply of toys and amusements. She wasn't very close to her older brother, Raheel, who was a young man of twelve when Faraza was five and able to keep up in games. He was beginning to be social so to bond and play with a sibling, Faraza patiently waited for her younger sister Nabila to grow up. She was only two years behind Faraza and the two girls spent much of the childhood together in the nursery.  However this carefree time only lasted a few years until Faraza had to spend more time on her lessons than with her sister.

Lessons were exciting to the wide eyed girl. It meant new things each day to be learned and discovered. Faraza's favourite lessons were history where she was told all sorts of stories and legends, mathematics with its puzzles that unfolded to her, and later, when she could stay up late enough, astronomy fascinated Faraza. Chartering the stars' courses across the sky was like watching a journey unfold night after night, and while the work was time consuming, Faraza thought it was worth it. During this time in her life, Faraza established little to no lasting relationships, her father was enamoured with her younger sister who was spoiled rotten, her brother had his group of friends that he focused on being the best out of all of them and her mother seemed to spend most of her time with her friends loathing her husband. So Faraza found girls her own age in the court, made friends with them to pass the time and try new things with them; even if it was just Faraza trying things and her friends looking on with horror.

When she was ten years old, the balance in Faraza's life shifted considerably when a medium sized white and silver cat wandered into the Tisroc's court and demanded an audience with him. A talking cat was something that the court had never seen before. The audience was immediately granted and the cat addressed the Tisroc, saying his name was Mihir and he was a servant of the god Tash and was sent to look after the Tisroc's eldest daughter. Faraza was summoned to the court and Mihir seemed pleased with her and left with her to confer privately. Unlike the rest of the court who were in a terrified awe of a servant of Tash, Faraza was more interested in and fascinated with Mihir because of what he was, where he came from. She had all sorts of questions for him, unlike the rest of the court, didn't answer with spiritual fear. Mihir settled in her lap that evening, and explained very plainly that he lied to the Tisroc but she shouldn't spoil the fun. He was one of the stars that Faraza had so patiently watched and charted. He said he was cast to earth to repent for a crime he committed, though that was the only question of Faraza's he would not answer. He would only bemoan that he was in a cat's body and not a human so it had taken him a while to make it to her. As the evening progressed into night, Faraza had been so enchanted by Mihir that she had forgotten to light any candles; she began to panic until she realized that Mihir emitted a soft but strong silvery glow, casting out darkness.

Mihir's ever presence in Faraza's arms or twisting around her ankles caused the future of the princess to change dramatically as she grew into puberty and her father had to decide on a husband for her. No Calormene Lord wanted a wife with a servant of Tash as a chaperone. Neither did it seem safe to marry her to a foreign sovereign, in case Tash's plans would ruin the marriage. Thus the Tisroc managed to find a high ranking Archenland noble to marry Faraza. A respectable marriage and it took her far away from Calormen, which suited everyone just fine; no one had to be wary the servant of Tash and Faraza is eager to see more of the world than just Calormen. Mihir's presence also meant that while she was never neglected by her parents, she was never spoiled either because of Mihir's supposed intimidating spiritual presence. Faraza doesn't quite see it that way, but Mihir manages to keep up with her and is a permanent part of her life so far.

    Mihir
Mihir is actually a star of the Narnian sky, shining his brightest in the early evening and early morning. Because he was one of the stars most admired by people and seen more than those who shone later at night, he has grown very vain and proud. As a result, and because of a crime he committed (that aren’t for humans to know), Mihir was sentenced to earth under the guise of a cat, which took away the appearance he was so proud of. As a cat he is medium sized with longish silver and white hair with green eyes, radiating a glow in the night time hours. Under the light of his peers, one can see the ghostly vision of a young man rising from the cat’s form, but only from a certain angles and only for a moment.  Mihir refuses to discuss what he’s supposed to do on the ground (mostly because he isn’t sure about it himself, Aslan told him he would know it when he saw it) but seemed to have picked Faraza as a travelling companion for now. She is a good partner for him, delighting in the world around her, and always eager to see more. As much as he tries, it is difficult to be world-weary and unenthusiastic with her.

    Sample
RP Sample: Princess Faraza Hashem, eldest daughter of the Tisroc of Calormen (may he live forever) surveyed the vista in front of her. The Calormen river stretched out in every direction, the faint scent of the Great Eastern Sea wafting in on the brisk breeze. It wasn't a particularly hot day, though it was still very warm, a perfect day to go exploring or to try something new. The fifteen year old has abandoned her studies on manners about an hour before, cajoled a group of her friends, and now ladies into a small party in the gardens by the water. It was about half way through the noon hour meal when Faraza realized she hadn't gazed at the world from the tall wall around the city in a while. It seemed a terrible waste of such a day not to do so, so she removed her floaty veils and gathered skirts to reveal the pantaloons underneath and proceeded to scramble her way up a tree by the wall and then struggle her way up to the top of said wall. It was not very graceful but as she took in the sight of the river, the slopes of the small villages and desert around them, how could it not be worth it?

"Your friends are squawking like upset geese. They'll have a guard up here to rescue you soon," Mihir's voice was as smooth as silk and seemed hardly upset about the change in venue. He sat next to Faraza's legs, looking over the scenery, impassive in his emotion. Only a flick of his tail showed the annoyance for being so close to water. It wasn't that he didn't like water, he wasn't actually a cat after all, and his body just wasn't built for this sort of activity.

"That's probably quite rude of you to say," Faraza commented smoothly, more interested in the passing boats along the outside perimeter of the wall than Mihir's rudeness or her friends' worries that she would fall and drown. She looked thoughtfully around and then gave Mihir a questioning look, "What sort of vista do you think Archenland has?"

"Well it's mountains mostly, and forests. Much more green than this place," Mihir explained patiently, knowing this expedition to the top of the wall was more about getting away from the party than it was about the top of the wall. Faraza gave him an interested look until he was forced to elaborate, "Well, imagine a whole country that's as green as these gardens. Add in some mountains and it’s Archenland."

"Amazing," Faraza breathed, the swell of excitement about seeing a new place, to see such a green and beautiful world rising more than it had in the past few weeks. Some point soon the Tisroc (may he live forever) would relent to his advisors and send Faraza on her journey to the northern country.

"Azi, darling, please, for the sake of the Tisroc, may he live forever, and your future betrothed, get down from that height less you fall and drown in the river!" One of her friend's voices cut through her thoughts. Faraza looked down with a playful grin plain on her face.

"I can swim you know," she commented good naturedly with a laugh, watching the panic rise on her friends faces. They knew what was coming, they stopped calling for guards to rescue Faraza and for servants to bring towels. Faraza smiled brightly at Mihir and jumped off the tall wall into the Calormen river, from what she understood about the north, the water wasn't always warm enough to swim in, sometimes it, and this was inexplicable to Faraza, it froze. How could she miss an opportunity like this to enjoy the feel of water across her, the waves moving her up and down. Mihir was unimpressed and didn't follow but leapt back down the tree to the nearby gate where Faraza would appear when she had enough of a swim for that afternoon.

Sorry for the wait!

First I want to say that this is an impressive app!  You have a well developed character here, and I'm looking forward to having her join our plot. (And on a side note, I love your choice of play-by.  Freida Pinto is gorgeous!).

Anyway, the main question/concern we had was about the cat/star Mihir. Stars can be sent down from the sky to perform some task in punishment for some wrongdoing, but at least in the case of Coriakin he kept his form (resembling a human with long, silver/grey hair).  I guess a form transformation could occur as punishment as well, but I have a feeling that's unusual.  Also, why exactly was Mihir sent to Faraza in particular to atone for his crime? Cara (one of our other staff members) did mention that Mihir could be a Narnian cat that's just lying about his history, but that wouldn't explain the glowing.

So anyway, I do like the personality you've developed for Mihir, but I'm a bit iffy on how canon it is. I know this is Faraza's app and not Mihir's but as Mihir seems to be quite central to her life, a bit more info might be good. Maybe just include a few more details about him in a note after your history section? That way, you can include information about Mihir that Faraza may or may not know.

Oh, and there are some grammar mistakes, etc. that make parts a bit confusing to read, but they're nothing major.  Still, you might want to take another look at them, if you're going to be editing your app anyway.

So just take a look at those things, and then let me know when you're done!
